Charles "Pat" H. Dunn

November 14, 1929 — August 14, 2020

Charles H. Dunn, 90, of Rochester passed away on August 14, 2020 at his residence. Charles Herman Dunn, known to almost everyone as Pat, was born November 14, 1929 in Waseca, MN to Irene and "Dutch" Dunn. He graduated from Waseca High School in 1948 and Mankato State University (Minnesota State University) in 1952. Pat met the love of his life, Gwendolyn McKeever, during his years at Mankato and they were married on June 22, 1952. Shortly thereafter, Pat was drafted for the Korean War and served for two years in the United States Army (1952 - 1954). Upon his return, Pat and Gwen moved to Kasson-Mantorville where they both taught from 1954 to 1958. Pat was the first head football coach for the then newly combined Kasson-Mantorville High School. They moved to Long Prairie, MN in 1958 and lived there until 1962. In 1962, Pat and Gwen moved to Rochester, MN where Pat was offered a teaching / coaching position at Kellogg Junior High. In 1972, Pat moved to John Adams Junior High where he remained for the rest of his teaching career. Pat was the head of the Math Department at John Adams and coached football, baseball and math counts teams there. Pat was an outstanding athlete where he excelled in football, basketball, baseball and track. He was inducted into the Waseca High School Hall of Fame in 2006 where he was a four sport, eleven time letter winner. Additionally, he was inducted into the Minnesota State University Hall of Fame in 2010 where, during his years there, was captain and three-time all-conference halfback for the football team. Pat was also a four-year letter winner in track where he qualified for the 1952 national track and field championships. In addition to teaching and coaching, Pat was well known around southern Minnesota for his 35 years as one of the state's outstanding High School wrestling referees. His additional interests included wood-working, antiquing with his wife, vacationing in Florida, and serving his beloved Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. He is survived by his two sons, Timothy Dunn of Riverton, NJ and Randal (Susan) Dunn of Winter Garden, FL; four grandchildren, Andrea Stack of Orlando, FL, Tracey Dunn (Steffen Fletcher) of Lake Worth, FL, Max Dunn of Delray Beach, FL, and Lily Dunn of Riverton, NJ; two great grandchildren, Jacob Stack and Jack Fletcher; and one sister, Lois Anderson. He is preceded in death by his wife Gwendolyn, both parents, and his two brothers Wally and Warren Dunn. Because of the times we're living in, a private memorial service will be held at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church and burial will be in the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church Columbarium. Memorials are requested to the Mount Olive Youth Group.
