Delores Ilene Carlson

Dec 20, 1943 — Oct 6, 2026

Delores Carlson, 82, of Rochester, MN, passed away on October 6, 2026 at Madonna Towers.

Delores Ilene (Darling) Carlson was born on December 20, 1943 in Worthington, MN, to parents Vernon and Alice Hazel (Nelson) Darling. She grew up on her family's farm and graduated from Worthington High School. She later went on to earn her Registered Nursing Degree from the Swedish School of Nursing. On June 25, 1966, she married the love of her life, Daniel Carlson. The couple spent a few years in New York while Dan worked for IBM, and later they moved to Rochester, MN where they raised their two children. This past summer Delores and Dan were lucky to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.

Delores had a passion for sewing and spent a lot of time teaching people how to sew, including a Monday night sewing class at her daughter's church. She also had a Sunday quilting group that she hosted for her friends. Delores made quilts, blankets, and hot pads, many of which she gave out as gifts. She also loved gardening, listening to and playing music, including piano, trombone and accordion, drives along the Mississippi river, searching for children's books for her daughter's classroom, and cooking. She made sure her family, friends and even her children's friends knew that they were welcome in her home, and never went hungry, especially on a holiday. Her Motto was "always leave out an extra plate." Delores was gracious, generous and giving, and will always be remembered as such.

Delores is survived by her husband, Daniel Carlson; her children, Becky Carlson of Rochester, MN and Andy Carlson of Arlington, VA; her brother, Merlyn (Becky Jean) Darling of Worthington, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Delores spent her last few days surrounded by family and catching up with loved ones. Per her wishes, there will not be a memorial service at this time.
