Dorene (Kohlmeyer) Vomhof, 97, of Eagan (formerly of Rochester) passed away peacefully on September 15, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Dorene was born October 27, 1928, to Edwin and Cora (Biel) Kohlmeyer in Wykoff MN. She attended St. John's Lutheran School and graduated from Wykoff High School.
She married Claire Vomhof on July 24, 1949, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wykoff MN. They farmed for forty years - first at Racine and later at Wykoff. They retired from farming in 1988 and moved to Milwaukee where Claire attended college for two years and received a degree as a Lay Minister. While in Milwaukee, Dorene worked at Johnson Level & Tool, Milwaukee Wire and the Mequon Care Center.
In 1995, they moved to Rochester where Dorene was able to care for three of their grandchildren and assist Claire as he served as Lay Minister at Trinity Lutheran Church, visiting and bringing communion to homebound members.
Dorene and Claire were blessed with nine children. Dorene was a dedicated wife and mother. She is survived by six of her children; Larry (Deb) Vomhof of Chatfield; Dawn (Glen) Halvorsen of Lakeville; Dean (Cheri) Vomhof of Gillette WY; Marion Vomhof (Dan) of La Mesa CA; Muriel Vomhof (Don) of West St. Paul; and Grace Adams of Eagan. She is also survived by daughters-in-law, Linda Vomhof and Greta Vomhof, and son-in-law, Jim Brown, 24 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Laurel Vomhof Graham and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claire; children, Deb Brown, Paul Vomhof and Lynn Vomhof and an infant son. She was also preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses, Helen (Don) Keyes; Dorothy (Leonard) Meyer; Ruth (Reuben) Grabau; and Walter (Eunice) Kohlmeyer, brother-in-laws, Eugene Vomhof and Arnie Graham; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Vomhof.
The funeral will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 222 6th Avenue SW, Rochester, MN at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 21, 2026. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester MN and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at 5 pm at St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Wykoff.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. John's Lutheran School in Wykoff or Trinity Lutheran Church.
