He then reenlisted to Active Duty from 1963-1967, earning a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Award before his honorable discharge. Erland enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching, taxidermy, and all things hockey. Erland was a member of the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association for many years. He ran a taxidermy business for almost 20 years. His greatest joy was watching his grandson Thor play goalie, just like he did in high school.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Sally; his parents, Oren and Evelyn; and his youngest sister Linda.

A celebration of life will be held from 12 to 4pm on July 27th, 2025 at the Rochester VFW Post 1215 (2775 43rd St NW, Rochester, MN 55901). Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Remer, MN.
