Harvey Johnson

January 18, 1946 — March 14, 2024

Harvey T. Johnson, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 14, 2024 at St.Mary's Hospital in Rochester MN.

Harvey was born on January 18,1946, in Roseau, MN to parents Howard and Evelyn (Hedin) Johnson. Harvey graduated from Roseau High School in 1965. In 1987, Harvey married Liana Bennett Mayer.

Harvey moved to Rochester in the fall of 1986, to be closer to his fiance, a decision he joked about as happening "kicking and screaming".

Harvey recommitted his life to the Lord Jesus Christ, and was baptized at the Gethsemane Baptist Church on October 13th, 1985. Harvey passionately served the Kingdom of God for over 35 years.

Harvey had many interests in life. During his 17 years serving in the military he was stationed around the world including Taiwan, Korea, Berlin, Arizona and North Carolina. Much of that time he worked in satellite communications which he took great pride in. He was an avid bird lover, which began when he rescued a cockatiel from his daughter's cat and which led to caring for six breeding pairs, supplying local stores. His last bird Gus lived to be 26 years old. His love for gardening led him to tend his own garden, and he had a talent for electronics, running a home business in electronic repairs. He was known as a gifted tinkerer who could fix anything. Lastly, he worked at Sam's Club in electronics until his retirement.

Harvey's greatest joy was his family. He cherished his wife, Liana, and was a loving father to Denice Futrell and Michael Johnson. A wonderful father-in-law to Laura Johnson. He adored his grandchildren: Donovan Futrell, Devin Futrell, Ranen Johnson, and Kiera Johnson. His fur baby Punky brought immense joy to his life.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Evelyn Johnson, sister, Susan Flynn, his sister-in-law, Sharon Johnson, father-in-law, Ed Bennett, mother-in-law, Carol Bennett, and brother-in-law, Lance Bennett.

He is survived by his wife, Liana Johnson, his daughter Denice Johnson (Futrell) of Pembroke Pines, FL, his son Michael R Johnson (Laura) of Rochester MN, and his grandchildren: Donovan Futrell, Devin Futrell, Ranen Johnson and Kiera Johnson. His sister, Eileen Craig (Johnson) of Cape Coral, FL, and brother Delbert Johnson of Clermont, FL.

Harvey's legacy of love, faith, and service will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
