Helen Thea (Hoch) Anderson, 89, of Rochester, Minnesota, died peacefully on June 10, 2026, at Saint Mary's Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on December 14, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, Helen was the younger of two children born to Theodor and Emily Hoch. When Helen was a teenager, she and her mother moved to Rochester. She graduated from Rochester High School and began working at Union State Bank, where she met Marlo "Andy" Anderson. They were married on June 2, 1956. Helen worked at Mayo Clinic until she and Marlo started their family in 1958. While raising their children, she worked for Rochester Public Schools as a lunch lady before returning to Mayo Clinic's Department of Radiology, where she remained until her retirement in 1995. After Marlo had passed, Helen had found new love and companionship in Richard "Dick" Muyres. She went on to marry Richard in 1993.
Throughout her life, Helen enjoyed many interests, including golfing, sewing, camping, reading, card club, traveling throughout the United States and overseas, crocheting, watching old Western movies, completing puzzles, and participating in the Red Hat Society. She maintained a wonderful sense of humor throughout her life.
Helen is survived by her children: Susan Leaveck of Savage, Minnesota; Karen (Gary) Korthauer of Elk River, Minnesota; and James (Sara) Anderson of Mazeppa, Minnesota. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Amanda and Emily Leaveck; Sarah and Michelle (TJ) Korthauer; Ryan (Catie) Anderson; Jessica (Joe) Schneider; Michael Anderson; and Noah Smith; and seven great-grandchildren.
Helen is also survived by her stepchildren: John, Jim, Dan (Shellie) and Carol Muyres along with Gail (Brian) Ripley. She is also survived by ten step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emily Harders and Theodor Hoch; her sister, Elizabeth Eggert; her husband, Marlo Anderson; her second husband, Richard Muyres; her stepson, Greg Muyres; and her stepdaughter, Linda Becker.
Celebration of Life will be held from 4PM-7PM on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at Ranfranz and Vine Remembrance and Reception Centre, 5482 Royal Place NW, Rochester, MN 55901. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery.
Memorials can be given to Stop Soldier Suicide.
