A memorial service for Henry (Hank) L. Oots, age 94 of Rochester, MN will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes (5421 Royal Pl NW Rochester, MN 55901). Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.

Henry Logan Oots was born on December 26, 1931 in Austin, MN to Henry Sr. and Lois (Steele). He passed away on April 13, 2026 at the Zumbrota Care Center.

Hank graduated from Austin High School. He served in the United States Marines from June 5,1950 and was discharged on June 6, 1954, attaining the rank of Sargent. He was a firearms instructor and developed and built the shooting range located at Camp Pendleton in San Diego CA. He married Alberta Skaran and they had a son; they later divorced. On December 1, 1956, he married Joann Warfield. They made their home in Rochester, MN. Hank worked for a couple of years as a carpenter, building homes in the city. In 1958 he started with the United States Postal Service and retired in 1989 after 31 years of service.

Hank enjoyed building stock cars, repairing cars in his garage, and fishing at his lake home in northern MN. He was a master at building anything and everything! After retirement, he and Joann spent 22 winters in Mesa AZ. There he managed the wood shop in their RV Park. He also loved to play pool and managed the billiards room. They made many longtime friends during their time in Mesa. In the summer they traveled back to MN to their lake home in Backus, MN. He of course had a woodshop there and built many birdhouses, feeders and other crafts that he sold at Flea Markets. There was never a shortage of sawdust in the shop! He also enjoyed fishing on Horseshoe Lake and spending time with family and friends.

Hank and Joann were members of the Backus Lions Club as well as the Elks Lodge in Rochester MN. If you knew Hank there is a good chance that you could have fallen victim to one of many pranks. He had a great sense of humor and was always making people laugh. He loved life and never understood how anyone could say they were bored!

Survivors include his daughter, Vicki (Randy) Christenson of Rochester, MN; stepdaughter Carla (Mark) Olson of Lago Vista, TX; a son David (Dorothy) Nieland of Austin MN; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; a brother, Thomas Oots of Austin MN. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joann and stepson Stephen Hanson.
