Hulet A. Sherry, age, 74, of Vadnais Heights, MN passed away February 7, 2023 at her home. Hulet was born in Birmingham, Alabama on April 20, 1948, the daughter of Joseph Alexander Sherry and Chloe Elizabeth (Griffith). Hulet lived in Alabama and Florida for many years before making her way to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where she graduated with an Associates of Arts degree in 1990. Upon graduation, Hulet moved to Rochester MN and became a disability rights advocate. Hulet was recognized statewide for her testimony on behalf of individuals with disabilities at the State Capitol and locally. She tirelessly advocated for increased accessibility including curb cuts and access to community buildings. She was appointed to the MN Council on Disability and volunteered with the Southeastern MN Center for Independent Living, where she taught computer classes and had several roles with the Hiawatha Homes Festival of Trees for many years. She was a recipient of the Rochester Mayor's Medal of Honor - recognizing her outstanding advocacy on behalf of individuals with disabilities. Hulet was a faithful student of Christian Science beliefs. Hulet loved to go on trips and there was always a story told upon her return. She had a love for theater and looked forward to her many trips to the cities to catch a show. She enjoyed her trips to Las Vegas, many boat cruises, and trips to Treasure Island Casino for live entertainment. Hulet loved the T.V. show Shark Tank and spent many hours coming up with innovative ideas for gadgets to help herself and others. Hulet had a wonderful fashion sense, ordering many items from Amazon - bright orange & yellow shirts, scarves, and comforters were some of her favorites; and along with her purchases also came many returns. Hulet was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Sherry and Chloe Baxter, and her stepbrother Bill Sherry. She is survived by her stepsister Kathy Sherry, sister-in-law Marilyn Sherry and several cousins. Thank you to Hulet' s wonderful friends who accompanied her on so many adventures over the years, the awesome staff of Hiawatha Homes for their decades of love & care, Regency Home HealthCare staff for their patience & grace, and to Allina Hospice for their compassion. A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date.
