Janet Marie Gustafson, 63, of Rochester, MN, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2023 at the Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna, MN. Janet was born July 26, 1959 to Kermith and Elsie (Kemmner) Gustafson in Heron Lake, MN. She attended Kindergarten there until her parents moved back to the family farm in March 1965. She graduated from Fulda High School in Fulda, MN. Janet went on to attend nursing training in Mankato, MN. After nursing in Heron Lake and Windom, Janet found her calling working with adults with special needs. Her first of these jobs was at Prairie View in Slayton, MN for several years. She then moved to SE Minnesota and worked at REM in Zumbrota and Hiawatha Homes in Rochester and Oronoco. In 2014, Janet's health started failing and she began dialysis. Janet was a very social and fun lady. She loved being with friends and family. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, dominoes, and croquet, as well as computer games. She is preceded in death by her parents Kermith and Elsie, and her brother Roger. She is survived by her siblings, David (Lynn) of Burleson, TX, Ken (Nancy) of Warsaw, MN, Crystal of Rochester, MN, Glenn (friend Kendra) of Fulda, MN, and Connie Staton (Dean) of Goodhue, MN; nieces and nephews Ryan (Claire) Gustafson, Curt (Whitney) Gustafson, Stacy Gustafson, Alex Gustafson, Kate (Jacob) Mireles, and Taryn (Taylor) Marsh; and 4 great nephews. The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses of Mayo Clinic St. Mary's and Methodist Hospitals in Rochester as well as her staff at DaVita Dialysis and Homestead Hospice of Owatonna. The family asks that, if desired, memorials be made In Janet's memory to the American Kidney Foundation, Mayo Clinic, or a hospice facility of your choice. We miss Janet more that words can say and all who knew her are mourning her absence and looking forward to the great reunion with Jesus Christ in heaven. A private memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
