Janet Marie Stenberg of Rochester, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, at the age of 86. Janet was born on March 25, 1940, in Rochester, Minnesota, to Walter and Johanna Swanson.
On November 24, 1963, Janet married Carl Stenberg. They raised two sons and one daughter while making their home in several communities throughout southeast Minnesota. Janet treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren, faithfully attending birthdays, community festivals, holiday gatherings, and Christmas celebrations. She encouraged those she loved to work hard, pursue their dreams, and always believed in their potential.
Janet had a deep love for life, family, and faith. She enjoyed traveling, collecting mugs, playing cards, volunteering, and spending time with extended family and friends. Her strong faith in Jesus guided her life as she taught Sunday School, participated in church activities, led Bible studies, and served through organizations including WELCA the Red Hats, and the Rochester Police Auxiliary. Janet was known for her willingness to serve others, often chairing committees and lending a caring hand wherever needed.
Janet was preceded in death by her husbands, Carl Stenberg, Daryl Crowson, George Lange, sister Cathy Buhl, and brother-in-law Doug Eslinger. She is survived by her children, Walter (Laurie) Stenberg, Wayne (Louise) Stenberg, and Wanda Stenberg; her cherished grandchildren, Jacob (Mary), Caleb, Alona, and Sam Stenberg; her siblings, David (Cathy) Swanson, Robert (Rose) Swanson, Richard (Kathy) Swanson, and Patricia Eslinger; and many other beloved family members.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff at Samaritan Bethany and St. Croix Hospice for the compassionate care and support they provided throughout her stay.
Janet will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her caring spirit and unwavering faith. Her devotion to family and friends will forever be cherished.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 4th at High Forest Community Church, 12036 Oak Ave. SW, Stewartville, MN 55976 with visitation at 10:00 a.m. and service at 11:00 a.m.
