Jean Helen Schafer, 85, of Stewartville, MN passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at The Mayo Clinic, St. Marys campus, with her partner, Beverly by her side. Jean was born November 6, 1935 in LaCrosse, WI to Leonard and Agnes (Keenon) Bets. After her dad died suddenly, Jean was adopted by Edwin Niemeyer, when Edwin and Agnes were married. Jean graduated high school and went on to attend business school. She worked in various clothing stores in the Winona area before coming to Rochester, where she worked for The Boys Scouts of America and later as a receptionist at ABC. On July 8, 1978, Jean and Beverly Farlow became partners for life. Jean enjoyed camping and fishing and was an avid reader. She was a great friend to everyone, always took care of everything and was always willing to help others. Jean is survived by her partner, Beverly Farlow; son, Jeff (Nancy) Schafer; grandchildren, Jeff and Jennifer; one nephew and two nieces; 6 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. Jean was preceded in death by her brother, James Niemeyer; biological father, Leonard; her adoptive dad, Edwin and by her mother, Agnes. A memorial service to celebrate Jean's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Peace United Church of Christ, 1503 2nd Ave. NE, Rochester, MN 55906 with Pastor Paul Bauch officiating.
