Jenifer Magera

Jenifer M.H. Magera, age 61, of Rochester, MN passed away March 1, 2026 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital Rochester-Methodist Campus.

Jenifer was one of six children born to Donald and Barbara Hormann in Saint Cloud, on July 13, 1964. She grew up in St. Cloud, attending Holy Spirit School, and St. Cloud Technical High School, graduating in 1982. She attended and graduated Summa Cum Laude from St. Cloud State University with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, and shortly thereafter began working in the Amino Acid Laboratory in Mayo Clinic's Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology in Rochester, MN. Jenifer worked at Mayo Clinic in various clinical and research laboratories, and also in Quality and Regulatory Coordinator roles for 33 years. While there she met her husband Mark Magera who joined the lab. They began an immediate and comfortable friendship which grew over time and they married September 26, 1992, at Saint Pius X Catholic Church and made their home in Rochester.

Jenifer was a thoughtful, humorous and joyful, caring person generous with both her time and talents. She was always dedicated to her work but focused on her family, and visited them often. Her parents and an Aunt and Uncle were the products of the marriages of two brothers wedding two sisters and so the children of these two families referred to themselves as "double" cousins. They spent a lot of time growing up between the two households, generating many fond memories and stories which always came up at gatherings.

Jenifer enjoyed travel and spending time with her nieces, nephews and other family. She loved gardening especially growing hosta and African violets and was a long-time member of the local Shades of Green Hosta Society, who recognized her for her many years of service. She was an avid puzzler, especially Sudoku, played Bunco, and enjoyed music and quiet evenings at home but really was a people person, preferring to be out and about in the world. She was fond of the phrase, "A clean house is the sign of a wasted life". She liked to meet and have lunch with friends and had a great sense of humor, often sprinkled with some sarcasm. Jenifer cherished her family, friends and enjoyed long friendships with her neighbors in Country Club Manor. Jenifer and Mark were fond of English Springer Spaniels and cherished their time with their two companions, "Emma" and "Romeo". You could often find Jenifer in the evening snuggling on the couch with one of the dogs.

In 2022 Jenifer began her battle with cancer. She struggled but was always cheerful and never let her medical issues sideline her from activities she really enjoyed.

Jenifer is survived by her husband of 33 1/2 years Mark, her siblings Mary, Mike, Joe, Therese and Timothy, and many aunts, uncles, double cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends, She was one of the bright lights in the lives of so many who were blessed to know her.

A celebration of Jenifer's life will be held on her 62nd birthday July 13, 2026 with a visitation from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM followed by a prayer service at 3:30 PM at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester, MN.
