Kenneth Dean Herman

Kenneth Dean Herman, 91, of Rochester, passed away Sunday, November 14, 2021 at Cottagewood Senior Communities. Ken was born June 11, 1930 in Minnesota Lake, MN to Louis and Lillian (Zabel) Herman. Ken started his career working on the east coast turning bottle gas into natural gas. While working out east, Ken married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Loken in Lynn, MA on October 1, 1950. Ken and Shirley eventually made their way back out west where Ken started as a route man for Wonder Bread and soon was promoted to supervisor. After many years with Wonder Bread, Ken decided to venture out on his own and started Brownberry Bread in the Rochester and surrounding area. In his spare time, Ken enjoyed spending time on Lake Zumbro boating and water skiing and during the winter months he liked to bowl. He was first a member of St. Francis Catholic church and later became a member at St. John the Evangelist. Ken was also a member of the Rochester Elks. He always loved traveling, and after retiring, he and Shirley spent 35 glorious tears traveling all over the world together. Ken was a loving and hardworking man. He will be greatly missed. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Shirley; children, Cheri (Todd) Hoeft, Michelle (David) Lapoint, Robin Herman, Kenneth G. Herman, Mary Jo (Kris) Geerdes; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and sister, Delores Murphy. Ken was preceded in death by his son, Brad; daughter, Tanja Bourassa and by four brothers. A mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Co-Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 11 4th Ave. SW, Rochester with Rev. Msgr. Gerald A. Mahon officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of the service. Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Due to Covid-19, masks will be required for services at the church.
