Lavonne Phyllis Baier

June 15, 1927 — October 10, 2021

LaVonne P Baier, 94, a Rochester, MN native, passed peacefully of natural causes on Sunday, October 10 surrounded by her daughters, at Samaritan Bethany on 8th. LaVonne Phyllis Greenwaldt was born June 15, 1927, in Rochester, the youngest of eleven, to Henry F and Ida G (Musolf) Greenwaldt. LaVonne graduated from Rochester High School, where she was a cheerleader, in June 1945, spending a majority of her senior year recovering from a broken neck she suffered in Duluth, over the Thanksgiving holidays of her senior year. While working for Western Union in Oshkosh, WI, she met her husband, George L Baier. George was an Arthur Murray dance instructor and LaVonne always said she thought they would dance their way thru life. LaVonne & George were united in marriage on January 11, 1958. George passed away June 13, 1986. LaVonne had an amazing work ethic that she passed on to her daughters. LaVonne retired from Rochester Methodist Hospital December 16, 1994, at age 67, but continued to work part-time at Dayton's in the cashier's office. LaVonne was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church where she belonged to Rachel Circle & Holiday Tea Committee, Mayo Argents Society, and Red Hat Society. She was a devoted Grandmother and religiously attended her grandsons' sporting events and musical performances in person and later, technology brought the performances to her. LaVonne is survived by her two daughters, Jodi (John) Weyrauch of Stillwater and Cindy (Judd) Sheppard or Rochester. Her beloved grandsons, Luke (Maria) Weyrauch of Bozeman, MT; Clark (Lily Lancaster) Weyrauch of St. Paul, MN; Ryne (Alicia Ziegler) Sheppard of Rochester; and Jack Weyrauch of Bozeman, MT. One great-grandson, Dylan Weyrauch of Bozeman, MT. She is also survived by her brother Erwin Greenwaldt of Rochester, brother-in-law Robert (Yvonne) Baier of Neenah, WI and many nieces & nephews. LaVonne was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, five sisters and four brothers. LaVonne's family would like to express their gratitude to her Mayo Care Team, Season's Hospice and her caregivers at Samaritan Bethany on 8th who showed much compassion, love, and care for LaVonne over the years and in her final days. The family suggests memorials to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church or Samaritan Bethany. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, October 18, 2021 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church (1212 12th Ave NW, Rochester, MN 55901).
