Lawrence Barsness

Lawrence Ronnei Barsness, aged 84, of Rochester, MN peacefully passed away on May 17th, 2024. Lawrence was proud of his Norwegian heritage and therefore it was only fitting he passed away on Syttende Mai (Norwegian Independence Day). Born on September 29, 1939, in Glenwood, MN, Lawrence was the son of Mabel and James Barsness. He earned a master's degree in mathematics from the University of Minnesota in 1964 and was employed by IBM until his retirement in 1993.

Lawrence met Sharon while both were students at the University and they married in Hopkins, MN on September 1st, 1962. Together they loved to travel and spend time with their family. Lawrence loved being outdoors, whether it be using his chainsaw, driving his Ford tractor, or riding his bike over 1000 miles a year.

Lawrence is survived by his wife Sharon; daughter Ann (Pete) Morken of Wilmington, DE; daughter Linda (Mike) Bay of San Diego, CA; son Eric (Tracy) of Pine Island, MN; grandchildren Shannon, Nicole, and Kyle Morken; Joshua and Tyler Bay; Adam, Jacob, and David Barsness; and sister Barbara (Swedenburg). He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Joel and James.

A memorial service honoring Lawrence will be held at 11am Thursday, May 23rd, 2024 at Bethel Lutheran Church 810 3rd Ave SE Rochester, MN. A visitation will be held from 4 to 6pm Wednesday, May 22nd, 2024 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home 5421 Royal Place NW Rochester, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
