Lionel Abrahams

Lionel Clifford Abrahams was born on February 1, 1938 in Port-au-Prince, Haïti to Clifford and Lia (née Dougé) Abrahams and died on July 28, 2021 in Rochester, MN. He was the youngest of four siblings, Gérard, Marie-Thérèse, and Jacqueline. He married Denise Bermingham on September 20, 1960 in Port-au-Prince, Haïti. They were married for almost 61 years at the time of his death. Lionel received his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in electrical engineering from New York University. He was employed by IBM and a member of the team that created IBM's System/38 in 1978, for over 25 years and retired in 1995. Lionel is survived by his wife; his son Lloyd Abrahams; his two daughters, Lia Coicou (son-in-law Philipe) and Lynn Abrahams, his granddaughter Maryse (married to Aaron Birr), his sister Jacqueline Abrahams, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. On January 11, 2020, Lionel rededicated himself to the Seventh-day Adventist Church and was excited about the plan for a new steeple for the Rochester church. Lionel's funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 8th, 2021 at the Rochester Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1100 37th Street NW, and will be live-streamed on Facebook (https://www.Facebook.com/rochestersdachurch) and YouTube (https://www.YouTube.com/channel/UCak0IffdrZMMHBuLZSA3PnA). Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Dementia Society of America, the Alzheimer's Association, the Rochester Seventh-day Adventist Church Steeple Fund, or a charity of the donor's choice.
