Marilyn Jeanette Gruhlke, a loving, faith-filled, and selfless woman who lived her life with grace, purpose, and a steadfast trust in God, has passed on May 20, 2026 in Rochester, MN. She was born March 30, 1932 in Minneapolis to George and Evelyn (Wickman) Anderson. She lived a life rooted in her love for her Lord, her husband and family.
After graduating from Minnehaha Academy, Marilyn married Eugene Gruhlke. They built a beautiful life for 69 years until his passing in 2019. Together, Marilyn and Gene showed to their kids how be parents, grandparents and how to serve others. They demonstrated how to live with resilience and adaptability as they navigated a life that included joys and challenges. Marilyn ensured that their home was a sanctuary where all who entered could feel loved and accepted, often graced with her gift of hospitality towards friends and family and, of course, appropriately decorated for the season.
Despite her sweet demeanor she had a competitive drive and often recounted meeting Gene while playing ping pong, including her declaration that she won. She continued this love of games throughout her life even learning online platforms to interact with family and friends. Marilyn's hands were rarely still, being occupied with cooking, sewing (doll clothes, wedding and bridesmaids' dresses, matching pajamas for the grandkids) and hosting gatherings with friends. Even as her energy waned, we would always be greeted with a big smile that brightened our lives. Her mind remained sharp to the end as we relied on her for insights into family history.
Marilyn's life was a tapestry of grace and perseverance filled with the joys of family, intertwined with challenges. Her legacy will live in the hearts she touched and the love she so freely gave. Marilyn is survived by daughters Barb (Tim) Ruopsa, Susan (Roger) Warndahl, son Dan (Sandy) Gruhlke, 11 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren all who are forever grateful to have been embraced by her love. Marilyn will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Marilyn's memorial service will be held at Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Home, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester, MN 55901, on June 19, 2026: Visitation at 10am, Service at 11am, and luncheon following.
