Marjorie Zweifel

Marjorie A. Zweifel, age 85, of Rochester, MN passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on August 19th, 2023 at Madonna Towers in Rochester, MN.

Marjorie Aarness was born July 11, 1938 to Albert and Arlene (Walgren) Aarness in Sparta, Wisconsin. She attended and graduated from Rochester High School. Marj was united in marriage to John Adam Zweifel on August 28, 1954 in Rochester, MN. Marj and John met while roller-skating in Stewartville, MN. She worked for Bud Freeman Hearing for 35 years in Rochester. Marj and John were blessed with four children, Cary, Kristin, John "Kevin", and Kimberly. They also were foster parents to 15 sons over the years. Marj was the matriarch of the family; she was always the host for family holidays where she was known for cooking and baking for a crowd. Marj was also the family historian and had such a great memory even up until her passing. She had a love for music, gardening, reading and her crossword puzzles. She enjoyed playing cards, browsing her shopping catalogs, and had a love for ice cream. Marj loved animals, but especially her cats. She had also been known to get a ticket or two for her "lead foot," which she wasn't ashamed of. Above all, Marjorie absolutely adored and cherished her family. Family traditions were important to her and she instilled that importance to her family. Marj had a great sense of humor her entire life even in her finals days and weeks.

Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Arlene Aarness; her loving husband, John A. Zweifel; her daughter, Kimberly Schmidt; grandson, Kristof Zweifel; nephew, Jeffrey John Burak; and brother in law John G. Murray.

She is survived by her children, Cary (Michael) Capelle of Oronoco, MN, Kristin (Jeff) Hames of Rochester, MN, John "Kevin" (Peggy) Zweifel of Rochester, MN, son in law, Robert Schmidt of Pine Island, MN; grandchildren, Jami Wheeler, Conor Capelle, Melissa Velez-Hames, Katie Miller, Sara Lent, Kelly Capelle; great grandchildren, Jordan Velez-Hames, Anthony Velez-Hames, Aubrey Velez-Hames, Griffen Lent, Carter Lent, Jack Capelle, Ariana Werner, Owen Capelle, Ava B.K. Heublein, Olivia Wheeler, and Austin Reece; Marjorie is also survived by her siblings, Garson (Mary) Aarness of Aiken, MN, Cheryl (John) Murray of Huntington Beach, CA, Kathleen (Jeff) Burak of Aiken, MN and John (Cindy) Aarness of Hastings, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 3:00PM at the Ranfranz and Vine Remembrance and Reception Centre (5482 Royal Place NW Rochester, MN 55901) with visitation starting at 2:00PM until the time of the service. A luncheon will follow the service. Private Family burial will take place at Moen Cemetery in Cashton, WI.
