ROCHESTER - Mary Jane Gentling, 94, died peacefully on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, surrounded by her loving family. Mary Jane was born in Mound, MN on July 30, 1916 to Neil and Ella (Vick) Holmes. She graduated from Rochester High School in 1935. Mary Jane married Dr. Phillip Gentling on September 9, 1942 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester. She was a longtime member at Bethel, a former member of the choir and volunteered in many church activities. She was also active in the Zumbro Valley Dental Auxiliary, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Salvation Army. She enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking, bridge, and ceramics. Mary Jane was faithfully devoted to God and her family. Mary Jane is survived by her husband of 68 years, Phillip; four children, Dr. Kirk (Barbara) Gentling, of Rochester, Dr. Colin (Lisa Clarke) Gentling, of Eyota, Linda Gentling, of Rochester, and Nancy Blatti, of Rochester; seven grandchildren, Jason (Andrea) Gentling, of New Brighton, MN, Nicholas Gentling, of Rochester, Dr. Gillian Gentling, of Minneapolis, Allyson (Tomas) Wolfram, of Denver, CO, Sara (Brian) Fish, of Mt. Vernon, WA, Heidi Blatti, of Rochester, and Rebecca Blatti, of Rochester; five great grandchildren, Kirk and Blaine Gentling, of New Brighton, and April, Cadence and Paige Gentling, of Rochester; a brother, Gerald (Martha) Holmes, of Rochester; and a sister Betty Lou (Ron) Winchester, of Bothell, WA.Mary Jane is preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Gretchen; two brothers, Robert and Gordon Holmes; and a son-in-law, Ken. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 7, 2011 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 810 3rd Ave. SE with Rev. Dr. Norman Wahl officiating. Visitation will be from 2-5 P.M. on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home and an hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Bethel Lutheran Church.
