Norma Jean (Lane) Sattre, born September 21, 1930, to Homer and Emeline Lane, McLoud, Oklahoma, was the youngest of five sisters and had three brothers. The family, raised in love, faith, grace and humility on the family farm were exceptionally close with the Baptist Church, the community, each other and each other's families. Norma Jean was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She passed away June 15, 2022 at the age of 91 years at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Norma Jean met her husband, Duane Orin Sattre, on a blind date set up by a friend. He was a handsome Army fellow stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and sparks flew. They were married and had their first child, Duane Junior, in Oklahoma. After the military service, they moved to Olmsted County in Minnesota and began farming. Three children followed, Diane, John and Eric. Six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren were joyfully received, loved and cherished. Her marriage to Duane was a partnership, his dreams and ambitions had a capable, resourceful and committed partner in her. She said she didn't always buy into his plans, but he had a way of presenting ideas that overcame her reservations and ignited her enthusiasm. Together they farmed, operated a landscaping business, accumulated, developed and sold property, and advocated for the environment while raising their family. They were actively exploring production of ethanol at the time of his death. After Duane's death, Norma Jean moved to Wabasha, joined the Faith Lutheran Church, the VFW auxiliary, and made many dear friends. She later returned to Olmsted County, taking up residence in what she lovingly referred to as "North Douglas." She joined the Douglas United Methodist Church enjoying greatly the congregation, family and community until the end of her life. Norma Jean was raised in love, hope and faith. She turned that love, hope and faith back onto all she touched in her life and was carried onward by love, hope and faith on June 15, 2022, to walk with Jesus. Her Celebration of Life will be at the New Haven Townhall, 9024 County Road 3 NW, Oronoco, MN 55960 on July 16th, 2022, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. A private family burial will take place earlier.
