Patsy Dianne Nugent Baker was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She left this earthly sojourn on May 20, 2024, at the age of 80; she was surrounded by her family and supported by Mayo Clinic Hospice. She was born on July 19, 1943, in Tyler, Texas, to Clyde and Maurice (Hays) Nugent. Her early childhood years were spent in the Many, Louisiana. Her family moved to Welsh, Louisiana, where she quickly made many friends. She graduated from Welsh High School in 1961.
Pat was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and it was at church in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where she met her future husband, Breman Wayne Baker. They married on June 21, 1963, and became parents of five children. Pat worked as a telephone operator for General Telephone until Breman graduated from McNeese State University and began a career in the US Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. She enjoyed being an officer's wife, but she recognized the most important job she could have was that of being a mother.
Pat was a skilled musician, a talented writer and author, an avid genealogist, and a gifted artist. She spent her lifetime serving many callings in her church, including a two year mission with her husband in the Canada Halifax Mission.
Pat is survived by her children: Breanna (Joseph) Bly of Rochester, MN; Patricia (Jay) Kandler of Noblesville, IN; Brent Baker of Lake Charles, LA; Kristen Baker of Rochester, MN; and Sharon Arviso of Albuquerque, NM; sisters Jan (Jim) Freeland of Many, LA, and Debra Call of Jennings, LA; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; father-in-law, L.B. Baker; mother-in-law, Florence Baker; and brother-in-law, Brett Call.
