Robert John Johnson died and went to be with Jesus on May 26, 2024 at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, Minnesota.
Robert was born on August 29, 1938 to parents Avery A. Johnson and Gladys Matthiesen in Curlew, Iowa. After graduating from Ayrshire, Iowa Consolidated High School in 1957, he went on to work as a welder for Twin Draulic Manufacturing in Laurens, Iowa, and then a press operator for Continental Can Company in Omaha, Nebraska. Robert completed electronics technician training at the Radio Engineering Institute in Omaha in 1960. He worked for one year as an electronics technician for General Dynamics Company in Mead, Nebraska before serving in the U.S. Army. After his discharge in 1963, Robert moved to Rochester and worked as an electronic technician in the Hematology Laboratory for Mayo Clinic. After retiring from Mayo Clinic, he worked for Car Quest/Advance Auto Parts delivering car parts.
Robert enjoyed fishing, traveling, woodworking, working on small engines, and making fishing poles. Bob went on several mission trips to Mexico through church, and several mission trips with 8 Days of Hope to various places. Bob served at First Baptist/Autumn Ridge Church for many years running the sound system, greeting, and performing other jobs.
Robert is survived by wife Barbara Johnson (nee Wiedle); children Kenneth Johnson of Chatfield, MN, and Eric (Lena) Johnson of Minneapolis, MN; siblings Avery A. (Maurine) Johnson of Cherokee, TX, Vernon L. (Jean) Johnson of Rochester, MN, and JoAnne (Eugene) Blatchford of Newcastle, NE; and grandchildren Karissa and Aiden.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents and sister Marcia Johnson.
Funeral Service will be held at the Timothy Chapel of Autumn Ridge Church on Monday, June 3, 2024 at 10:00 AM. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2024 from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes (5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester, MN, 55902) and at the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, MN with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Autumn Ridge Church, Arbor Terrace Assisted Living, Camp Victory Ministries, Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch, the Alzheimer's Association, or donor's choice.
