Remembering a Life Well Lived

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Rolland (Pete) Willam Petersson announces his passing on August 31, 2025, in his home, surrounded by those he cherished most. Born January 29, 1938, in Lanesboro, Minnesota, Pete lived a life defined by dedication-to his country, his family, and his passions.

Pete served honorably as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force, a distinguished career that spanned decades and culminated in his retirement in 1979. His commitment to service and his unwavering sense of duty left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Classic sports cars were more than a hobby for Pete-they were a lifelong passion. Whether behind the wheel or deep in conversation, Pete's enthusiasm for all things automotive was infectious. He relished any opportunity to share his knowledge or engage in spirited discussions with all who would listen.

Known for his sharp, sarcastic sense of humor, Pete reserved his wry remarks for those closest to him-a testament to the warmth and affection he held for his favorite people. Beneath his teasing exterior was a heart devoted to his family's wellbeing. Pete took great pride in ensuring that his loved ones were cared for and supported throughout the years.

Pete is survived by his beloved wife, Mary (Larson) Petersson; two sons, Rolland L. Petersson (wife DeAnn) and Robert H. Petersson (wife Kori); two granddaughters, Alicia M. Boenish (Brian) and Korinne M. Cummings (Jeff); two great-grandchildren, Scottie Cummings and Eloise Boenish; his sister, Linda Carter; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members, all of whom will miss him dearly.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents and his loving brother, Richard.

A private family celebration of Pete's life will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025 at the Preston, Minnesota Veterans Cemetery. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Mayo Clinic Care Transitions program, the Veterans Administration Caregiver program, and Comfort Home Health Care whose compassion and support were instrumental in caring for Pete at home.

In lieu of gifts and/or flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans program, honoring Pete's legacy of service and support for those who care for our nation's veterans. Monetary contributions may be sent to: DAV Chapter 28, PO Box 6226, Rochester, MN 55903 or to family, who will ensure all donations will be sent to this organization: Rolland Petersson, 806 Northern Heights Dr. NE, Rochester, MN 55906.

Pete's memory will live on in the laughter he inspired, the stories he told, and the love he gave-steadfast and true, forever cherished by all who knew him.
