Ruth Fiek

Ruth E. Fiek passed away of natural causes on July 24, 2025, after several months of declining health.

Ruth was born in Rockford, IL on November 15, 1929, to Rev. Paul and Mabel Nygren. She lived in many places growing up, moving with her family to the churches her father served in Stillman Valley, IL, Brandon, SD, Peoria, IL, Manskog, Sweden, Stephenson, MI, Minneapolis, MN, Wabasso, MN and Eyota, MN. She was a proud graduate of Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis. While living in Eyota, she enrolled in the Methodist-Kahler School of Nursing.

During this time, she met Dale Fiek. They were married August 4, 1956, in Rochester where they made their home. She was a nurse at Methodist Hospital for 32 years before retiring to provide daycare for her 3 grandchildren.

Ruth and Dale were Charter Members of Rochester Covenant Church. They later became members at Evangel Methodist Church. They were very active and involved in both churches.

Ruth enjoyed camping, traveling and bicycling with Dale. They were able to take 3 trips to Sweden and Europe along with many trips throughout the US in their camper.

Ruth is survived by her husband Dale of 68 years; son Steve Fiek (Debbie), daughter Nancy Bremseth (Dan); Grandchildren John Fiek, Stevie Bertram (Jake), and Sam Fiek (Amber Jimenez); great grandchildren Tyler, Jack, Luke, George and Collins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law Paul and Elaine Nygren; her in-laws Francis and Grace Fiek and brother-in-law Harlen Fiek.

The family would like to especially thank the Mayo Hospice Team and the Nurses and Doctors on Station 74 at Methodist Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Evangel United Methodist Church (2645 N Broadway Ave, Rochester, MN 55906) with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
