Sandra Kaplan

December 31, 1935 — July 29, 2024

Sandy Kaplan, age 88, of Rochester, MN, passed away peacefully with her children by her side on Monday, July 28, 2024.

Sandra was born December 31, 1935 in Minneapolis, the daughter of Edward and Rose (Siegal) Goldman. She graduated from North High School in Minneapolis. She moved to Los Angeles after high school and was an x-ray technician for several years before returning to Minnesota.

She married Ben Kaplan on March 12, 1961 and later welcomed 3 children. Sandy volunteered at Methodist Hospital gift shop and B'nai Israel Synagogue. Over the years, she often worked at the family businesses: Subway Newsstand at the Mayo Clinic and Readmore News in the Zumbro Hotel.

Sandy was an avid reader, played mah jong and was later drawn to playing bridge. She was curious and a fast learner of new technology, adapting to her iPad and iPhone quickly to stay in touch with friends and family.

Sandy loved her family fiercely. Cooking for her immediate and extended family was a great joy. She enjoyed hosting dinner parties for friends, and many weekends were spent with the Goldmans, Kaplans or Bernsteins. Sandy and Ben spent their later years flying to visit their children and grandchildren around the country. The next trip was planned almost as soon as they returned home.

She is survived by her three children Linda (David Harmon) of Montclair, NJ, Edie Kaplan Davis (Jay) of Danville, CA and Jeff of Seattle, WA, as well as four grandchildren: Jacob and Michael Davis and Rachel and Sarah Harmon, and many nieces and nephews. She was attended to lovingly by Justine Dalager for the last 4 years. She adored-- and was adored by --the staff at The Waters on Mayowood.

Sandy was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Kaplan, parents, brother Marvin Goldman and sister Peggy Bernstein Schraiber.

A funeral will be held at B'nai Israel Synagogue Thursday, August 1 at 12:00 p.m. If you would like to make a donation, please go to www.bnaiisraelmn.org.
