Wallace Joseph "Wally" Nigbur, of Rochester, Minnesota, passed away on March 22, 2026, in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born in Wausau, Wisconsin, on March 2, 1940, to Doris and William Nigbur. Wally was a proud U.S. Army veteran.
Wally married Patricia "Jean" Moen of Albert Lea, Minnesota, on July 20, 1963. They lived in Rice Lake, Beaver Dam and Adams, Wisconsin, before settling in Rochester, Minnesota. Wally and Jean made their home in several Rochester neighborhoods over the years, reflecting their shared love of building new homes and creating spaces for their children: Cindy, Mike, Matt and Chris.
Active in the Rochester community, Wally gave his time and leadership to many organizations; his favorites were the years spent as a board member for Hiawatha Homes and Pax Christi Church.
Wally began his finance career at Thorpe Finance and spent most of time in Rochester at Olmstead County Bank, Marquette Bank, Sterling Bank and retired from Premier Bank in 2005.
Wally enjoyed reading and golfing. He especially loved fishing and spending time at the family cabin, where he could often be found riding his John Deere tractor. A natural builder, Wally enjoyed taking on projects for his family and made many bookcases, desks, and toy chests for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He took great pride in his family and in all they have accomplished.
Wally is survived by his wife, Jean; his daughter, Cindy; and his sons, Michael (Mary), Matthew (Patti), and Chris (Lori). He is also survived by seven grandchildren-Marcus (Sara), Scott, Gretchen (Darin), William, Nate, Jessica, and Benjamin-and three great-grandchildren, Dax, Shiloh, and Jet, as well as two sisters, Jan Kriebich and Connie Stanke.
A service to celebrate Wally's life will be held on April 11, 2026, at Pax Christi Church, 4135 18th Ave. NW, Rochester, MN. Visitation will begin at 9:30, followed by mass at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hiawatha Homes.
Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Nigbur family.
