Leon E. Moen, 90, of Kasson, died Sunday, January 9, 2011 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN.Leon Elmer Moen was born November 10, 1920 in Vernon Township, Dodge County, the third of eleven children of Ole and Bertina (Ness) Moen. Leon was confirmed at South Zumbro Lutheran Church. Leon farmed on the family farm before enlisting in the Army of the United States. During WWII, Leon served in the 738 Engineer Base in the Asiatic Pacific Theator and the Army Occupation of Japan, and was a 64 year member of the American Legion Post #333 and Mantorville VFW Post #4555 and served as a past Post Commander. After WWII, Leon returned to farming and worked at John Deere Implement in Kason before retiring from the Mayo Clinic. In 1976, Leon married Margaret (Haugen) Lybeck in Byron. He was a life long resident of Dodge and Olmsted Counties, and member of South Zumbro Lutheran Church. Leon enjoyed fishing, bowling, dancing and visiting with family and friends.Leon is survived by his wife, Margaret Moen of Hayfield; three step-children, Bruce Lybeck of Byron, Daniel Lybeck of Dodge Center, and Amy (Spriggle) Lybeck of Kasson; two grandchildren, Ashley Spriggle of Red Wing, MN and Nicole Lybeck of Mesa, AZ; two brothers, Truman (Mavis) Moen of Austin and Ivan (Dorothy) Moen of Byron; one sister, Irene (Harold) Sanvick of Austin; one brother-in-law, Morris Linbo of Hayfield; and three sisters-in-law, Lorraine Moen of Hayfield, Marie Moen of Rochester, and Berline Moen of Rochester; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Efrain, Archie, Marvin, Bob and Paul; and two sisters, Opal and Martha.A funeral service will at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at South Zumbro Lutheran Church (4830 - 280th Ave, Kasson, MN) with the Reverend Mark Schwartz officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Kasson American Legion Post #333. A visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
