Robert (Bob) V. Mieras, 89, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2017 in Rochester.
Bob was born to Lillian and Milo Mieras at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN on September 16, 1928. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1946 and served in the US Army from 1950 to 1951 during the Korean conflict. He married Doris LaPierre at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa on September 25, 1949.
Bob and Doris have traveled to all Fifty States, many in their motorhome. Doris passed away, from Alzheimers in 2009, but Bob continued to volunteer hundreds of hours even after her death at Samaritan Bethany on 8th, receiving the Volunteer of the Year award in 2012 from the Aging Services of Minnesota. Bob was an avid fisherman and accomplished woodworker and golfer. One of his proudest teenage memories was carry professional golfer Byron Nelson's clubs at the country club in 1945. Mr. Nelson gave him a $5.00 tip and bought him a coke.
Bob retired from the Mayo Clinic in 1989 after 42 years of service. He spent his final years of service at Mayo as supervisor of the Autopsy Department in the Medical Science Building.
Bob is survived by a son Randy (Kathleen) Mieras of Rochester, two grandsons Jeffrey (Amy Drewes) Mieras of Rochester and Kevin (Lindsey) Mieras of Brooklyn Park, MN and five great grandchildren and his devoted caregiver Thuy Truong. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two sisters and one brother.
Memorials may be sent to Alzheimers Research at Mayo Clinic.

We just wanted to offer our sympathy to all the family. Bob was a special person but you already know that. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Russ & Dolores Koelsch.
Bob WAS a wonderful volunteer for us at Samaritan Bethany. He became a friend and family member here. He will be SO missed by SO many. My deepest condolences. Allison DeRaad
I'm so sad to hear of my cousin's passing, and send my condolences to his family and all who knew this kind, generous man. The last time I saw him was at my mother's funeral in 2005, and I remember talking with him about Doris and her struggle with Alzheimer's. When I was a child, our social life revolved around family, and Bob and Doris were certainly a part of that. I know he will be missed, and I hope the memories of a life well lived will give all of those who knew him some comfort.
