Harold Kenneth Fuchs, age 89, of Byron passed away peacefully at his apartment at Madonna Summit in Byron on January 3, 2018.
Born February 5, 1928, in rural Byron to Harvey and Floy (Hair) Fuchs, Harold grew up on various farms in Kalmar and Salem Townships in Olmsted County. Harold attended rural Byron area elementary school and graduated from Byron High School in 1946. He farmed with his father and worked as a John Deere tractor mechanic prior to serving in Germany as a truck mechanic in a medic division during the Korean War from 1950-1952. After the service, Harold continued to farm with his father and brother, and worked as a tractor mechanic until he began employment with IBM in 1959, and worked there until his retirement in 1987. On September 9, 1956, Harold married Marie E. Kratt in Morristown, MN. They made their home and raised their family in Byron until moving South of Byron (Salem Corners area) in 1969. Marie passed away on September 3, 1994. On February 1, 1996, Harold married Neva (Johnson) Ladin in Florida.
Harold was the Justice of the Peace in Byron in the early 1960's. He was a member of the Byron American Legion, a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church in Byron, and active in the Widowed Persons Service. He very much enjoyed working on his hobby farm and spending time in his woodshop where he turned out many beautiful works for his family. Harold also enjoyed bowling, farming, helping others, nature, animals, gardening, spending time at the lake, and above all else loved spending time with his family.
Harold is survived and will be deeply missed by his children: Lorene Fuchs (Wayne Hultz) and Carmen (Paul) Pyfferoen of Byron, Paul Fuchs (wife, Margaret Gorbatenko) of Saint Paul, and Kenneth (Mary) Fuchs of Cold Spring, MN. Harold also had great pride in his ten great grandchildren: Lane and Audree Poulter, Marie Johnson and Leah York and Emma, Hazley, Maddagen, Ryley, Rachel and Elanor Pyfferoen.
Also surviving are his second wife, Neva, and her children: Karl (Lynn) Ladin and Marsha Voss of Rochester, Karen Messmer (Jon) of Oronoco, and Nick (Kathleen) Ladin of Illinois, as well as their children and grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Sherron Fuchs of Rochester, Judy Kratt of Faribault, Alice (Robert) Smith of Frankenmuth, MI, Edith Kratt of Lakeville, and Katherine (Mel) Treder of Rochester, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
