Harold Duane Boysen, 81, of Rochester, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on August 4th 2019, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, MN.
Harold was born on January 1, 1938 in Hayfield, MN to Merle and Howard Boysen. Harold grew up with 7 other siblings on the farm just outside of Hayfield. In 1955, he graduated from Blooming Prairie High School.
After graduating, Harold spent three years in the Army where eventually he was shipped to the Marshall Islands for 14 months to assist with the Army's atomic testing grounds program.
In 1958, he worked as a mechanic in Austin, Minnesota and later married Betty Barrows on April 3rd 1960, at Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adams, MN.
In 1962, Harold and Betty settled in Rochester, MN where Harold started working at IBM until he retired in 1991. It was during those years that Harold and Betty raised their two sons, Allan (Al) and Michael (Mike). He loved spending time with his family, instilling a strong work ethic along the way. Many evenings and weekends were spent outside doing various activities with his family such as playing ball, summer fishing trips and attending many sporting events. He loved to play cards and board games with his grandchildren.
He is survived and missed by his wife, Betty Boysen, two sons, Al (Tami) of Rochester and Mike Boysen (Cathy Mestad) of Pine Island. Two sisters, Marlene Shafer of Kasson and Evelyn Hertle of Rochester, and one brother, Bob (Mary) Boysen of Austin, MN. Four grandsons, Andy, Jordan, Brady and Sam Boysen. Step-Grandson, Chandler Wilson of London, England. Step-Granddaughters, Heidi Mestad and Holly Mestad, both of Rochester, five step-great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by brother and sister-in-law Gene and Jean Boysen of Arizona, brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Lavonne Boysen of Dodge Center, MN. Sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Tim Legred of Blue Earth, MN. Sister, Dorothy Boysen of Austin and two brother-in-law's Arnold Hertle of Rochester and Cy Schaefer of Dodge Center.
Memorials can be directed to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church or Seasons Hospice.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 1 ½ hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens at a later date.
