Doris Meyers, 93, of rural Elgin, MN died on April 3, 2021 at Mayo Clinic Care Center, Lake City, MN where she was a resident for the past three years.
Doris Eleanor Koelsch was born on July 16, 1927 to Merton and Jennie Koelsch. She along with her two brothers grew up on their farm near Douglas, MN. Following graduation from Rochester Central High School in 1945, she worked as a desk clerk at the Mayo Clinic blood lab. On September 11, 1947 she and Harold Meyers were married. The couple farmed near Douglas, MN until 1960 when they and their five sons moved to their farm near Potsdam, MN.
Doris was a hardworking farm wife who even worked for a time at the canning factory in Plainview, MN. A good cook and baker, she hosted many gatherings in their country kitchen whose walls were decorated with her antique plates, and she entertained in their living room that was filled with shelves holding her tea pot and pitcher collection. She and Harold enjoyed visiting antique stores, and her home displayed their treasures. Her sewing machine was always nearby, ready for mending jeans, making shirts, dolls, stuffed animals and especially ready for making quilt blocks. Doris hand quilted dozens of quilts for her family and friends and one of her quilts was always the prize at the annual church bazaar raffle.
Doris had a great love for God and her church, and faithfully served in the Douglas church all her life. In later years she was part of a Tuesday study group at church and a Wednesday Ladies Bible study at the Senior Center. Her kind, caring heart and genuine concern for others made her a friend to so many people and someone with whom you just wanted to talk. Her children and grandchildren especially benefitted from her wisdom an unquenchable spirit.
She is survived by her sons: Richard (Kay) of Rochester, MN, Louie (Diane) of Elgin, MN, Randy (Kristen) of Maplewood, MN and Wayne (Brenda) of Elgin, MN; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, brother, Russell (Dolores) Koelsch of Rochester, MN and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold; son, Rodney and brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Florence Koelsch.

My first memory of Doris is when I was 8 years old. Doris and Darlene invited me and my little sister to Bible school. Mom sent us and the rest is history. It has been an honor knowing Doris for 30 some years of my life. She was truly an angel on earth. She gifted me one of her teapots when I got married 13 years ago. It has a special place in my kitchen. I think of her every time I bake. She instilled her love of Christ in each of us she taught during Sunday School. I will think of her fondly and miss her until we meet again. Thinking of you all and sending you prayers. Nikki (Brown) Evers
What a wonderful lady our sweet Doris was and will always be remembered as a strong christian lady. My mom Shirley Hammes and Doris were like sisters growing up and kept that relationship through out their lifetime. I will always cherish the time spent with Doris on my visits back to Minnesota. God now has another angel in his arms. Prayers and hugs to the family of Doris. Kathy Hammes Norman, Chandler AZ
