LaVonne P Baier, 94, a Rochester, MN native, passed peacefully of natural causes on Sunday, October 10 surrounded by her daughters, at Samaritan Bethany on 8th. LaVonne Phyllis Greenwaldt was born June 15, 1927, in Rochester, the youngest of eleven, to Henry F and Ida G (Musolf) Greenwaldt. While working for Western Union in Oshkosh, WI, she met her husband, George L Baier. George was an Arthur Murray dance instructor and LaVonne always said she thought they would dance their way thru life. LaVonne & George were united in marriage on January 11, 1958. George passed away June 13, 1986.
LaVonne had an amazing work ethic that she passed on to her daughters. LaVonne retired from Rochester Methodist Hospital December 16, 1994, at age 67, but continued to work part-time at Dayton's in the cashier's office.
LaVonne was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church where she belonged to Rachel Circle & Holiday Tea Committee, Mayo Argents Society, and Red Hat Society.
She was a devoted Grandmother and religiously attended her grandsons' sporting events and musical performances in person and later, technology brought the performances to her.

Yesterday, I happened to come across this obituary while doing some research on my family tree. My mother, Isabelle Musolf Egstad, was LaVonne's first cousin. Isabelle passed away in 2016 at age 101. She always thought she was the last surviving Musolf of her generation. But we didn't know about LaVonne and Erwin! I really enjoyed the slideshow celebration of LaVonne's life. Her beautiful face and joyful spirit comes through in every picture! Yes, it brought tears to my eyes, but happy ones to know she lived a long and happy life and that her daughters and entire family obviously adored her.
To: Jodi and Cindy - - - Wonderful memories of LaVonne, George, Jodi, and Cindy from the 1970s. We were next door neighbors on 12th Ave NW. LaVonne was a great neighbor and wonderful Mom to Jodi and Cindy. You will miss her; but you'll always be able to cherish so many good memories. With sympathy, Norma and Dave Amundson
This lovely woman welcomed me into her home nearly every afternoon through my years at John Adams Junior High. She raised two amazing daughters who carry on her legacy of kindness. Sending both you girls love as you celebrate your mom.
